MyConnection SG is a mobile application that utilises voluntary crowd sourcing to improve the quality of experience for mobile broadband users. My Connection SG gathers usage experience from users’ mobile phones, such as broadband speed, latency and coverage on mobile cellular networks such as 2G, 3G and 4G, as well as on Wi-Fi networks. This will allow IDA to have a better understanding of mobile broadband performance and information of consumers’ usage experience.
A pilot will run for six months, from 15 October 2015 to 31 March 2015, which will allow IDA to explore the feasibility of crowdsourcing data to provide more information of consumers’ mobile usage experience.
MyConnection SG, designed to run in the background of a mobile phone, will collect and send the information in anonymised form back to IDA. The information will form various sets of data points that can be used to assess the mobile network operators’ performance collectively.
