Medifund Silver and Medifund Junior

Medifund is an endowment fund set up by the Government to help needy Singaporeans who are unable to pay for their medical expenses. Medifund acts as a safety net for those who cannot afford the subsidised bill charges, despite Medisave and MediShield coverage.

Medifund Silver was created by carving out a portion of Medifund to deliver assistance to elderly Singaporean patients aged 65 and above in a more targeted manner. In Nov 2007, Medifund Silver was launched with a start-up capital of $500 million.

Medifund Junior – Children below 18 will be able to tap into this fund to help defray their healthcare costs. The fund will also help defray costs for needy children diagnosed with congenital or neonatal conditions before 1 March 2013.

Further, the government will set up a Medisave account and deposit a one-off Medisave grant of S$3,000 over two tranches for all Singapore citizens born on or after 26 August 2012.
