2 New Choices for N(A) Level Students

Two new options for students who do not want to go Sec 5 by Irene Lee

About 9,000 students are eligible to move to a Secondary 5 Normal (Academic) course in 2013 after taking the GCE Normal Level examinations, and for those who qualify, they also have two new options in furthering their studies in polytechnics.

Option 1: They may choose to go into the Polytechnic Foundation Programme if they qualify for the criteria. This is a new one-year course offering “a practice-oriented curriculum taught by polytechnic lecturers”. For its first intake in 2013, the polytechnics will offer about 1,200 places across a range of diploma courses.

Option 2: They may choose to enrol directly to Institute of Technical Education (ITE) via the Direct-Entry-Scheme to Polytechnic Programme, which will lead them to a place in a polytechnic diploma course, subject to grade requirements. ITE will offer about 1,000 places for this programme.
