While all three local telcos will offer 4G plans for the upcoming iPhone 5, users may not get to enjoy that high-speed access islandwide.

SingTel and M1 use the 1,800MHz and 2,600MHz frequency bands for the new wireless service but the iPhone 5 will work only on 1,800MHz.

StarHub’s upcoming 4G service is on 1,800MHz but its network covers only the Central Business District, Changi Airport and Singapore Expo.

As 1,800MHz is also used for 2G networks, M1 and SingTel are tapping the 2,600MHz band to broaden the 4G network.
