CBD taxi rule hours to be shortened from March 1

CNA, 22 Feb 2012

Currently, taxis which go around the CBD have to stop at designated taxi stands or along driveways of some buildings from 7am to 10pm.

From March 1, the operational hours for the Central Business District (CBD) taxi rule will be relaxed. The hours will also be aligned with the full-day bus lane operational hours from 7.30am to 8pm.

Presently, if taxi drivers violate the CBD taxi rule, they will get three demerit points. From March 1, that penalty will be removed. But the fine will be increased from S$100 to S$130.

Taxi stands are located within 250 metres or about a five-minute walk from major buildings within the CBD. Taxi drivers can also pick up and drop off passengers at the driveways of about 220 buildings in the CBD.
