ITE College West (Choa Chu Kang) open in July

The school, which will open in July when the new school term begins, will take over the operations of five smaller campuses.

Four of them – in Bedok, Bukit Batok, Clementi and Dover, had their last day yesterday. The fifth at Ang Mo Kio will close in September.

ITE College West is ITE’s second mega campus, the first being ITE College East at Simei which opened in 2005. A third ITE College Central in Ang Mo Kio will be ready in 2012.

The three schools were built as part of the Government’s plan to offer greater choice in skills training and better school facitlities to ITE students.

The Choa Chu Kang campus sits on a plot of land about the size of 10 football fields. It was built at a cost of $260 million to build and has facilities such as an Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor sports hall, a 22-room training hotel, restaurants and a wine cellar where students studying hospitality will have their classes.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
